Church History

First Assembly Bangor began as a church plant in 1978. Pastor David Tidwell walked the streets of Bangor with nothing more than five dollars in his pocket but with a dream given to him by God to pioneer a church to proclaim the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ. In those early days the church met at a local hotel banquet room but by 1984 the church property on Finson road was purchased. For a season the church gathered under a tent on the new property while a building began to take shape.

In 2009 the Pastor Phil Mumford accepted the invitation to come and pastor First Assembly Bangor his calling was simple; “preach the word and love the people.”  Since 2009 the church has grown and many ministries have been expanded to connect with the community and grow new believers into disciples and then in turn to disciple others.

In 2017 The Lord spoke to the leadership of the church a simple phrase. “Love God, love people and serve both well.” This spirit is in the DNA of this growing assembly and we look forward with great anticipation to great things in the future.

Lead Pastor

Pastor Phil and Alisa have been in full-time pastoral ministry for over 25 years.  They have been at First Assembly Bangor since 2009 and love to see God’s great work in this growing church. They have two children, Philip and Emily, enjoy the outdoors especially during the Fall and never turn down a good piece of pie.

“I love the Patriots and deer hunting. I drink Earl Grey tea and rarely coffee. My passion is the love of God which transformed me and the joy of seeing others find peace with God.” - Pastor Phil
